Privacy Policy

HS Code Classifier ("the App") is operated by Jstars Holdings Inc. ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our Shopify application.
1. Information We Collect
When you install and use the App, we access the following data from your Shopify store:
- Product data: Product titles, descriptions, types, and vendor names. This data is used solely for HS code classification.
- Store information: Your shop domain and authentication session data, used to maintain your connection to the App.
We do not collect or access:
- Customer personal information
- Order data
- Payment or financial data
- Customer browsing behavior
2. How We Use Your Data
- AI Classification: Product data (title, description, type, vendor) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate HS code classifications. This data is processed in real-time and is not stored by the AI provider beyond the immediate request.
- Metafield Storage: Classified HS codes are written back to your Shopify product metafields (namespace: "trade", key: "hs_code"). This data lives in your Shopify store, not in our systems.
- Session Management: We store session tokens in a PostgreSQL database to maintain your authenticated session. Sessions are deleted when you uninstall the App.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude API): For AI-powered product classification. Product data sent to Claude is processed under Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models.
- Railway: For application hosting.
- Shopify: As the platform provider. Subject to Shopify's Privacy Policy.
4. Data Retention
- Session data is retained while the App is installed and deleted upon uninstallation.
- HS code classifications are stored as Shopify metafields in your store and persist until you delete them.
- Classification logs (opt-in only): With your consent, anonymized classification data (HS code, product category, confidence score) may be retained to improve accuracy across all stores. Raw product descriptions and store-identifying information are not stored. You can opt in or out at any time in the App's Settings page. Without consent, no classification data is retained beyond the immediate request.
- Manual corrections: When you actively correct a classification, that correction is stored regardless of your opt-in setting. Corrections are intentional user actions that directly improve accuracy. No raw product descriptions are included.
- On uninstallation: All session data, usage records, and classification logs are deleted. HS codes saved to Shopify metafields remain in your store.
5. Data Security
We protect your data using industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption for all data transmission, OAuth 2.0 authentication via Shopify, and secure session management. Our infrastructure is hosted on Railway with automatic SSL/TLS.
6. Canadian Privacy Law (PIPEDA)
As a Canadian company, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Since we do not collect personal customer information, PIPEDA obligations are limited. If you have questions about your data, contact us at the address below.
7. GDPR (European Merchants)
For merchants in the European Economic Area: we process minimal data (product information only, no personal data) as a data processor on your behalf. You may request data deletion at any time by uninstalling the App.
8. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Uninstall the App to delete all session data
- Delete HS code metafields from your products
- Request information about what data we hold
9. Limitation of Liability
The classification and tariff information provided by Jstars HS Classifier is for informational purposes only. Jstars Holdings Inc. is not responsible for customs penalties, incorrect duty assessments, or business losses arising from the use of our classification or tariff rate data. Users should independently verify all information with qualified customs professionals before making compliance or business decisions.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or email.
